One of the modern day leading mount forces, Daley Mathison who’s ‘Mini TT’ CV includes been the second fastest rider in history around the iconic Scarborough course, is the next racer to take part in Road Racing News brand new, Oliver’s Mount Top 8 series.
Multiple times a race winner at the Spring Cup National Road Races, Barry Sheene Road Race Festival meetings, his answers to the Scarborough themed questions are as follows:
Q1: First memory of Oliver’s Mount?
“My first memory of riding at Oliver’s Mount was back in 2007 on my Aprilia Rs 125 production bike, both me and Mark Goodings getting special dispensation being the youngest rides to take on the prestigious course!”
Q2: Favourite part about racing at the mount?
“Favourite part about racing at the mount would have to be the Crowed and my Supporters, as this is my local event it’s great to have my family and friends there with me, we always have a great atmosphere.”
Q3: Favourite section of Scarborough course?
“Exiting the Mount Side Hairpin and racing down the jumps at speeds of nearly 160 mph, some times elbow to elbow and inches apart as we drop down into farm bends across the line, then hard on the brakes into Mere that whole section gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. By far my favourite section.”
Q4: Best moment thus far at Scarborough?
“Wow! Tough question I’ve had many great moments around the mount! I’ve had many bad ones too but we won’t go into them!
Winning in the wet, great battles but the one in particular that sticks in my mind was the Cock O’The North in 2017 between my self and Dean, breaking Guy Martins long standing lap record 4 times in one race and just missing out by less that a bike length, I may not have won the race but what a fantastic battle I will remember for a long time!”
Q5: All time Scarborough racing hero?
“Racing hero, I’ve been asked this a few times and I always find it hard as I respect all riders, all of the greats.
The one that I would have idolised as a youngster who coincidentally raced successfully at Scarborough, would have to be Carl Fogarty.”
Q6: Is their one machine in particular that you would like to race at Scarborough?
“I have never ridden a 250 round Scarborough and being one of my favourite bikes to ride, that’s for me the bike I crave to ride there.”
Q7: One word to describe Oliver’s Mount?
“Savage!”
Q8: Most respected racing rival at Scarborough?
“The answer to this one can only be Deano, fair play I’ve given him all I’ve got and more on many occasions, and he always finds that little bit more.”
