Oliver’s Mount Top 8: Andy Hayes

Oliver’s Mount Top 8: Andy Hayes

A top 15 finisher in both Junior (A) races at the 2017 Gold Cup meeting, West Yorkshireman Andy Hayes is the next racer to take part in Road Racing News growing in popularity, Oliver’s Mount top 8 series.

40th, 37th in last year’s Junior, Senior Manx GP races, his answers to the Scarborough themed set of questions are as follows:

Q1: First memory of Oliver’s Mount?

“Driving my wife’s Golf around the course 2 weeks before my debut at the Spring Cup, thinking to myself that I wished I’d come as a spectator before entering the meeting.”

Q2: Favourite part about racing at the mount?

“Has to be the paddock. Such a friendly place as you meet the same faces 4 weekends every year. At other events like the Manx, lads from Scarborough already know each other, it’s like a bunch of mates.”

Q3: Favourite section of Scarborough course?

“I always seem to make up ground from Memorial to Drury’s, but for thrills it’s the jumps.”

Q4: Best moment thus far at Scarborough?

“Overtaking around the outside of Mike Norbury at the Esses. The lead didn’t last long though.”

Q5: All time Scarborough racing hero?

“Has got to be Deano (Dean Harrison). He’s won every race I’ve ever seen him race there, and the sight of him backing it into Mere is one of my favourite sights in Road Racing.”

Q6: Is there one machine in particular that you would like to race at Scarborough?

“I’ve always wanted a go on a two stroke 250, but closest I ever got was a TZR125 on the road as a youth.”

Q7: One word to describe Oliver’s Mount?

“Addictive”

Q8: Most respected racing rival at Scarborough?

“I think Mike Norbury always excels himself at Scarborough but he’s too good to class as a rival. I really enjoy racing against Grant Gaskell, mainly because he’s such a funny and likeable character.”
