NW200: Tuesday Speed Trap Analysis

The 200-mph barrier was exceeded on countless occasions, across yesterday’s FonaCAB & Nicholl Oils North West 200 qualifying sessions.

Quickest overall through the speed trap timing sector on route to University Corner, was Alastair Seeley aboard the Milwaukee BMW/TAS Racing Superbike, registering 207.2 mph.

Others to exceed 200 mph were Michael Dunlop (204 – Superstock), Peter Hickman (203.4 – Superbike), Lee Johnston (202.8 – Superstock).

Josh Brookes (201.6 – Superstock), Dean Harrison (200.4 – Superbike), Conor Cummins (200.4 – Superstock).

Supersport wise, just one racer topped 180 mph, Boyce Precision Engineering/Russell Racing’s Richard Cooper.

Cooper’s best speed recorded was 183 exactly, making him four mph faster than any other Supersport class entrant.

The BMW F900R Cup series leader also commanded the Super Twins speed-trap standings, nudging almost past 171 mph, (170.5).

To put into context the swiftness shown by the quickest NW200 newcomer in history, aforementioned world’s fastest road racer Peter Hickman, debuting R7 Yamaha machinery, was 18.2 mph down!

Despite certain technical changes, Lee Johnston reunited with RS 660 Aprilia tackle remains well off the speed’s illustrated by Kawasaki, Paton pilots.

Johnston’s best speed of 156.9 mph, was 13.6 mph down on KMR Kawasaki’s Cooper.
