NW200: Seeley Edges McLean, Todd For Supersport Pole

Timed North West 200 qualifying for 2022 was finalised this afternoon by a keenly-contested battle for Supersport pole position.

Fastest post opening timed laps was perennial NW200 front runner, the ‘Wee Wizard’ Alastair Seeley, who lapped sub 4 minutes 39 seconds.

At mid-session distance, the top five order was Seeley, McAdoo Kawasaki’s Adam McLean, Davey Todd, Michael Dunlop and Bradford’s Dean Harrison.

29 minutes into the session and the top five order wasn’t changing, with just 1.84 seconds separating the aforementioned competitors.

Unfortunately, the pesky rain loomed and soon wet conditions were apparent around parts of the Triangle course.

Due to this, lap times didn’t improve and this allowed IFS Global Logistics supported Seeley to bank pole position for tonight’s opening Supersport encounter.

Cookstown Supersport lap record-holder McLean, Milenco by Padgetts Todd, 19 times TT winner Dunlop, DAO Racing’s Harrison remained second, third, fourth, fifth quickest respectively behind Seeley.

Rich Energy OMG Racing’s James Hillier was a creditable sixth fastest ahead of PreZ Racing’s Paul Jordan, who as previously mentioned is riding through the pain barrier due to a recently sustained hand-injury.

Completing today’s top 10 fastest 600cc speedsters were Michael Sweeney, Conor Cummins and new wave roads talent Joe Loughlin.

Pre-race favourite Lee Johnston finished 11th fastest but will start from seventh on the grid tonight thanks to his best lap time from Tuesday’s qualifying session.
