NW200: Honda’s Excel As Irwin Bags Superstock Pole

NW200: Honda’s Excel As Irwin Bags Superstock Pole

After the thrills, record-breaking pulsating Superbike extravaganza, the Superstock 1000’s we’re next to take centre stage around the much-loved Triangle course.

Early pace setters were National Superstock 1000 front-runner Davey Todd, 24 times NW200 winner Alastair Seeley and Ashcourt Racing’s Lee Johnston.

Soon though, unofficial Superbike qualifying lap-record holder Glenn Irwin would be setting the pace, registering a best lap time of 4 minutes 24.671 seconds.

Just over 21 minutes into the session and a dab of inclement wet weather was arising.

Due to this, speeds for a moderate period of time didn’t improve.

Despite the changing conditions, racers towards the session’s conclusion began to set PB’s including Superstock lap record-holder Seeley, who moved to second fastest overall, lapping at 4 minutes 25.500 seconds.

This placed him 0.829 behind Superstock qualifying victor Irwin whilst third quickest was another Honda runner, 2019 IRRC Superbike Champion Todd (4.25.999).

FHO Racing’s Peter Hickman post a late turn of pace, finished fourth fastest just ahead of 19 times TT winner Dunlop.

British Supersport front-runner Johnston finished P6, Super Twins qualifying winner Cooper finished P7 whilst positions eighth to tenth were occupied by John McGuinness MBE, Michael Sweeney and fans favourite Dominic Herbertson.
