Manx GP Top 6: Stephen Carr

Manx GP Top 6: Stephen Carr

Known to many as ‘Cargo’, 2012 Spirit of the Manx award victor Stephen Carr is the next racer to take part in Road Racing News, rising in popularity Manx GP Top 6 series.

Five times a top 20 finisher in Manx GP affiliated races, his answers to the Mountain Course themed set of questions are as follows:

Q1: When you first competed at the Manx, what was your first initial thought of the Mountain Course?

“It was awesome and completely different compared to riding it on open roads. I thought I knew it, I didn’t!”

Q2: Most memorable Manx GP bike?

“Definitely the little RGV250 (Suzuki) that I rode in 2011. Everyone said it was impossible to do 4 laps on it.

First surprise was fuel coming out the tank breather at Quarter Bridge on lap 1. Same again on lap 3. I finished with the front brake master cylinder dangling from the reservoir and no front brake. My favourite bike is my ZXR 400 (Kawasaki) easily the nicest ride.”

Q3: Most treasured memory from the Manx?

“After a 400 race I was due out on my 600 for a practice lap. I’d no clue about the 400 result and no time to go find out.

As I was preparing to go out on the 600 someone handed me a copy of the 400 results. I’d got my first ever replica. Its a moment I’ll never forget.”

Q4: Is there one specific Manx GP competitor that you look up to?

“Not really. I like to think that every competitor in the paddock was a friend and we were all racing to achieve personal goals.”

Q5: Describe the Manx GP in one word?

“Addictive”

Q6: Finally, if you could race one machine from any series, championship around the Mountain Course, what would it be?

“RC30 (Honda) with Joey Dunlop settings.”
