Manx GP Top 6: Matt Stevenson

Established amongst the modern day MGP greats, Ripon’s Matt Stevenson is the next racer to take part in Road Racing News rising in popularity, Manx GP Top 6 series.

Q1: When you first competed at the Manx, what was your first initial thought of the Mountain Course?

“Don’t get carried away, don’t get carried away, don’t get carried away! As we were told so much on the newcomers weekend just to go steady don’t rush learning it.”

Q2: Most memorable Manx GP bike?

“My old R6 (Yamaha), stock motor in her went well enough.”

Q3: Most treasured memory from the Manx?

“Senior win was amazing but I think the practice week leading up to race week was more of a surprise, as we only went over to aim for a top 20 finish and were top 2 quickest more or less every session, didn’t know what to think really ha ha!”

Q4: Is there one specific Manx GP competitor that you look up to?

“Has to be Trev (Stephen Parsons) think he’s on 5 podiums now after 3 years racing it and the battle we had in the Senior (2018) was ace.

Were both from similar backgrounds in racing, no big bucks bikes or motors just him and his family so always good racing with him, and he seems to crash a lot less then me over there as well.”

Q5: Describe the Manx GP in one word?

“Apprenticeship”

Q6: Finally, if you could race one machine from any series, championship around the Mountain Course, what would it be?

“BMW HP4 Race in the Senior TT I guess, can’t think of anything better than that.”
