To the shock of various IRRC racers, sponsors, fans, next year’s series won’t feature a Championship catering for Superbike/Superstock 1000 machinery.
Reasons cited for this according to disclosed information on the official IRRC website are contributing to increasing safety measures in pure road racing, cost, riders’ budgets per season.
Reacting via Facebook to the news, Sweden’s top IRRC competitor of recent times, Markus Karlsson said:
“I feel a bit sad about this if it’s true. For me I didn’t join the full IRRC season (this year) because I didn’t have money to buy a full Superbike. If it was more superstock regulations that would keep the cost down.
And my second reason is the travel coast for me. The ferries aren’t cheap from Sweden down to Europe. For a full race weekend, half of my cost is just travelling and fuel to the car.
I’m at least happy that I have done full seasons in IRRC since 2021 and my best finish in the Championship is 4th place! In 2018, I did my first IRRC race in Imatra aged 19 years old. That was also a nice memory!”
Further information around a new Super Twins Championship for 2026, is to be made public once 2025 race activities finish.
