It is now fourteen consecutive Imatranajo Superbike wins and counting for Erno Kostamo, following another composed, faultless performance throughout the second ten-lap IRRC Superbike race fixture.
Nearing yesterday’s record-breaking turn of pace, Kostamo once again proved to strong for the tenacious opposition, led by Eemeli Lahti (Velt Motocenter Aprilia), who at the race’s finalisation, was 5.995 seconds adrift.
Lathi had towards lap three’s final stages, got to within striking distance of Kostamo, only for Finland’s only international road race winner of this century, to find the necessary speed to pull clear.
Kenny Koskinen (P3), Ville Valtonen (P4), Niko Lehtiranta (P5) ensured it was an all-Finnish top five with Swedish ace Markus Karlsson the leading non-Finland rider in sixth place after last lap issues for IRRC SBK Championship leader Adam McLean.
Fellow Northern Irishman Darryl Tweed (Never Be Clever Racing Yamaha) seventh, second in terms of full-time IRRC competitors, is now only eleven points in arrears to series leader McLean.
Eighth, ninth, tenth place finishers Fedrik Matthys, Wally Jacobs, Nico Muller joined Tweed in gaining valuable respective Championship points bursts.
