IRRC Horice: Datzii’s SBK Double, Maurer’s Superbike Title

Whilst David Datzer polished off in style Superbike race two success at Horice, third place finisher Lukas Maurer, also had ample reason to celebrate, as he officially became 2023 IRRC Superbike Champion.

Maurer who came into the race 58 points in front of leading Championship pursuer, race runner-up Didier Grams, did everything he had to do, handling the huge pressure to become the first IRRC Champion from Switzerland.

He’s also the first Kawasaki mounted racer to secure the IRRC SBK crown.

Returning to the topic of the second 1000cc encounter at Horice, aforementioned 2022 Macau GP runner-up Datzer, attained P1 ownership on lap three and from here wasn’t surpassed.

His final race winning margin stood at nigh-on five seconds over fellow countryman Grams.

New IRRC Champion Maurer held off Neumann Racing’s Patrick Hoff for fourth whilst Erno Kostamo post a steady race start, fought his way back up to fifth.

Positions sixth-tenth were swept up by the following:

Virgil Amber Bloemhard (6th), Johannes Schwimmbeck (7th), Sweden’s top IRRC exponent Markus Karlsson (8th), Never Be Clever Racing’s Forest Dunn (9th) and Karel Pesek (10th).
