IRRC Frohburg: Datzer Edges Grams In Tight Superbike Qualifying

Horice, Dymokury lap record holder David Datzer edged Didier Grams for the overall top spot from today’s IRRC Superbike qualifying stints at Frohburg, which saw just over 2.5 seconds cover the overall ten quickest qualifiers.

MTP Racing’s Datzer, astride M1000RR BMW tackle, stormed to opening qualifying honours, lapping almost sub 1:34 seconds.

Almost a second in arrears was fellow countryman, G&G Motorsport’s Grams.

In Q2, IRRC icon Grams steadily chipped away with his speed and by his sixth timed lap, he came agonisingly close to grabbing pole position, lapping only 0.005 of a second shy of Datzer’s pace setting time from Q1 (1.34.084).

Datzer, Grams, Erno Kostamo would finish the outright qualifying top three, with Macau Grand Prix winner Kostamo joining his fellow BMW powered competitors, in dipping below the 1:35 seconds barrier.

An impressive fourth fastest, finishing best non-BMW powered racer ahead of 2023 IRRC Superbike Champion Lukas Maurer was Supersport pole-sitter, Performance Racing Achterhoek’s Jorn Hamberg.

Behind Superbike guest rider Hamberg, placings sixth to eighth on the Q2 times sheet were pocketed by Patrick Hoff, Sweden’s top real road racer Markus Karlsson and Johannes Schwimmbeck.

Wrapping up Saturday’s ten speediest big-bike exponents were twice IRRC Supersport Champion, Laurent Hoffmann and 23 plate holder Virgil Amber Bloemhard.
