Under a dark cloud after yesterday’s tragic incident, those sampling today’s IRRC Superbike race opener at Frohburg, were competing with heavy hearts.
David Datzer, hoping to become just the second rider from Germany, to secure an IRRC title, strengthened greatly his chances with success in the ten-lap race.
The Horice lap-record holder persistently led throughout, held off the attentions of 2022 Macau Motorcycle GP winner Erno Kostamo, finishing first by close to 2.6 seconds.
With Lukas Maurer finishing third in terms of full time IRRC competitors, Datzer’s Championship lead expands to fourteen points.
Besting no.1 Yamaha pilot Maurer for P3 overall this afternoon was Performance Racing Achterhoek’s Jorn Hamberg.
Luca Gottardi placed fifth, Markus Karlsson obtained sixth, Johannes Schwimmbeck swooped seventh with Laurent Hoffmann, Udo Reichmann, Jan Buchel respectively eighth, ninth and tenth.
Three UK riders banked finishes eleventh to thirteenth, Never Be Clever Racing’s Rhys Hardisty (11th), team-mate Darryl Tweed (13th) and Frohburger Dreieck debutant, David Brook (13th).
