Imatranajo organisers (Motorclub Imatra) are aiming to celebrate in style next year, the 60th anniversary of racing at Finland’s most famous race circuit.
Absent from the IRRC schedule for the past two years, due to Covid-19 related problems, 2022 action at the
ex Grand Prix venue is planned to take place from the 1st-3rd July, just over a week before the Southern 100 commences.
World famous, evoking great Moto GP memories from the 60’s, 70’s, early 80’s, allied to an ever enthusiastic turnout of spectators, it’s not a surprise to see Imatranajo rank amongst various racer’s favourite roads events.
Planned highlights for those in attendance next year include celebrating 50 years since the legendary Jarno Saarinen, claimed 250cc World Championship success and witnessing up close an innovative, ultra speedy electric steed the JHC Ukkonen.
Not forgetting the anticipated thrilling IRRC Supersport & IRRC Superbike competition, set to feature a selection of Europe’s top pure road racers.
In recent years star names to enjoy race winning spoils on Finnish soil have included the most recent IRRC Superbike Champions, Danny Webb, Davey Todd and Didier Grams plus Michael Rutter, the much missed Dan Kneen, Sebastien Le Grelle, Vincent Lonbois and 1998 Senior TT winner Ian Simpson.
Local heroes to excel have included Pauli Pekkanen, Juha Kallio, Erno Kostamo and five times World Sidecar Champion Pekka Paivarinta.
