East Coast Racing Festival: Sweeney Conquers Grand Final, Ends Irish Roads Season In Style

Ending what’s been for him a quite momentous, tumultuous, extremely prosperous Irish Roads season in style, Michael Sweeney reigned supreme within the showpiece race of the Mrs Browns Boys East Coast Racing Festival, the seven lap Grand Final.

Sweeney, piloting the Martin Jones Racing S1000RR BMW, that has served him so well throughout the year, as in the Open Championship race got the better of tenacious lead pursuer Thomas Maxwell, to secure Grand Final honours by just a shade under 3.9 seconds.

Finalising the podium finishers alongside Irish Road Race Supersport/Super Twins Champion Sweeney and rising roads talent Maxwell was Supersport Championship race victor Michael Browne.

ZX6R Kawasaki mounted Browne who finished only 0.059 of a second behind Maxwell, illustrated again why he is rated so highly by various road racing insiders, road racing aficionados.

Ballymoney’s Darryl Tweed finished fourth, Enniskillen Grand Final winner Forest Dunn placed fifth whilst Stephen McKnight enjoyed another strong ride, finishing a very creditable sixth.

Remaining finishers from the final Irish road race of 2019 were Graham Kennedy, Paul Gartland, Scotland’s Donald MacFadyen and 99 plate holder Paul Fallon.
