East Coast Racing Festival: Dominant Sweeney Wins Open Championship Encounter

In formidable form on the Martin Jones Racing S1000RR BMW, Michael Sweeney secured in style the Crossan Motorcycles supported Open Championship race crown at the Mrs Browns Boys East Coast Racing Festival.

Irish Road Race Super Twins Champion Sweeney, who is in prime contention for Duke Road Race Rankings Championship honours, race winning margin at the end of the seventh and final lap of the race, stood at just over 7.8 seconds.

Lead chaser throughout to Sweeney was early pace setter Thomas Maxwell, who like Sweeney showcased his proven capabilities on 1000cc machinery.

Rounding out the podium finishers following another impressive performance was rising star, lead Supersport mounted competitor Michael Browne.

New ‘Tommy Club’ Manx GP member Darryl Tweed finished a more than creditable fourth whilst a close, keenly contested battle for fifth was won by Cornwall’s Forest Dunn, who finished just under 0.3 clear of Graham Wexford based Graham Kennedy.

Concluding the first ten finishers were multi Manx GP rostrum finisher Stephen McKnight, Paul Gartland, Stephen Casey and Paul Fallon.
