The feature race for the Cock of the North road races started in clear sunshine with dry conditions all round. But there was drama at the beginning when pole sitter Michael Pearsons Honda wouldn’t start which meant alone of the front row would be Dean Harrison on his RC Express racing Kawasaki. Jamie Hamilton got the best start before Ryan Farquhar took the lead before Dean Harrison then hit the front and at the end of lap 1 led Farquhar with Hamilton in third place not to far behind. By the end of lap 2 positions at the front stayed the same until Hamilton pulled into the pits after issues arose on the KMR Kawasaki superstock bike.
Lap 3 saw Harrison and Farquhar still locked in battle until Farquhar made a decisive move halfway through the lap to take the lead and by the end of lap 4 was now half a second in front of Harrison. Lap 5 saw positions at the front not change with Kiaran Hankin holding a superb third place on his Honda CBR-600 bike. By lap 6 Farquhar had a lead of now around 2.5 seconds over Harrison who had a huge advantage over Hankin in third place with David Hewson holding fourth place but close behind him was James Cowton in fifth place. Lap 7 saw no positions at the front change apart from Cowton overtaking Hewson into fourth place.
At the end of lap 8 Ryan Farquhar on the KMR Kawasaki superbike took the chequered flag to win his third Cock of the North road races feature race and for the third year in a row. Dean Harrison finished a superb second on his Kawasaki just 4.7 seconds down on Farquhar with Kiaran Hankin taking a brilliant third place finish with James Cowton a fine fourth. David Hewson took fifth place on his Kawasaki zx-10 superstocker, Mark Lister finished in sixth position with Mick Goodings, Gary Graves, Callum Laidlaw and Dave Woolams rounding out the top 10. Motorcycle news road tester Adam Child took 12th position in a race that saw 18 finishers in total.
Overall a top weekends racing at Oliver’s Mount Scarborough the weather was fantastic apart from one thing where I was watching where it was a tad cold! but in general top weather which helped the racing no end which saw many close battles and again saw Dean Harrison show his talent on roads circuits including his second place finish in the feature Cock of the North race behind Ryan Farquhar. The next road race meeting coming up is the Armoy race of legends meeting in Northern Ireland which will see many top road racing stars do battle which include Michael & William Dunlop, Guy Martin, Ryan Farquhar and many more.
