The Armoy road races have got bigger and bigger since the inaugural event
back in 2009 it has now become one of the top road race meetings on the
calendar. Leading the entry is the winner of the grand final at the meeting
last year Michael Dunlop on his Michael Dunlop racing Honda Fireblade
and Yamaha R6 bikes plus possibly his Kawasaki ER-6. Former winner
of the Armoy road races grand final race Ryan Farquhar will again be
in contention on his KMR Kawasaki’s as will circuit newcomer Jamie Hamilton
also riding the KMR Kawasaki’s in the superbike & super-twin races.
Podium finisher last year in the grand final race at Armoy William Dunlop will
start as one of the favourites for victory in the superbike races but in particular
in the supersport race where so far this year he has taken a race win at the
North West 200 and a podium finish in this class at the TT. William this season
is once again racing for Wilson Craig racing Honda and the team will lead up
Hondas charge at the Armoy road races this year. Suzuki’s challenge is lead
up by the Tyco Suzuki by TAS team which will run both Guy Martin and circuit
debutant Conor Cummins at this years meeting.
One of his favourite circuits Guy Martin has being on the podium in the grand
final race around here before and will target victory in the same race this year.
His team mate Conor Cummins making his debut this year at Armoy will be looking
for a solid debut year in also his debut season with the Tyco Suzuki by Tas team.
Irish national regular podium finishers John Burrows, Davy Morgan, Derek Shiels
Michael Pearson and Michael Sweeney will be looking for similar results at
Armoy this year and to mix it with the factory bikes and current TT winners
at Armoy this year.
Circuit debutant last year Steve Mercer returns this year having had so far a brilliant season on the roads which has included winning the opening road race
meeting of the season at Oliver’s Mount Scarborough. One of the most well known
newcomers this year at the Armoy road races is one of the current rising road
race stars Lee Vernon. Lee who most recently finished 7th in the solo championship race at the Southern 100 will look for similar results on his debut at the Armoy road races on his Yamaha R6.
The Armoy road races are getting better with each year in particular this year
the event has being given much better coverage which includes Greenlight
Television filming the races this year. And now the Armoy road races are
regarded as one of the most important Irish road race meetings of the year
and this year is no different.
