Anticipation Building For Opening Action Of The MCE Insurance Ulster Grand Prix

Anticipation is building amongst riders, teams, organisers and pure road racing fans, as where one day away from action beginning at the MCE Insurance Ulster Grand Prix.

Opening practice sessions take place tomorrow at Dundrod with roads closing from 10:00 AM through to 9:30 PM.

For many this years Ulster GP is about two riders and their great rivalry, Michael Dunlop and Ian Hutchinson. Since TT 2016 both riders have taken different paths in preparation for the third international roads meeting of the year.

Michael Dunlop has enjoyed great success at the Southern 100, Armoy Road Races, plus superbike wins at Skerries and Walderstown.

Whilst Tyco BMW’s Ian Hutchinson has concentrated on British superstock championship action, this makes the upcoming competition around Dundrod, his first roads action since TT 2016.

The two anticipated front running BMW Motorrad mounted riders, are not the only ones with eyes on multiple prizes this week at the world’s fastest road race.

2015 hat trick hero Lee Johnston, lap record holder Bruce Anstey, JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Peter Hickman, William Dunlop and Dean Harrison are just some of multiple riders who believe they can secure this week, Ulster GP victories.

Tomorrow will mark for many riders their first laps of the famous Dundrod roads venue, TT privateers champion Dan Hegarty, Sam West, Dominic Herbertson and Danny Tomlinson Racing’s Michael Booth, will all gain their first competitive taste of the fastest road racing circuit in the world.

Your guaranteed many things at the Ulster Grand Prix, close fought racing, awe inspiring action, multiple rider dices for victory, but one thing unfortunately you cannot guarantee at times, is good weather.

Like everyone at Dundrod, I have my fingers firmly crossed for good weather tomorrow, for the start of what’s set to be a quite memorable, MCE Insurance Ulster Grand Prix.
