The power and the glory, the sport’s utopia, climbing Mount Everest, whatever way you describe the Mountain Course, it’s a top, top goal point in every aspiring real road racer’s career.
It’s no different for Aintree’s Liam Thornton, son of six times top thirty-five Sidecar TT finisher, Kevin Thornton.
The Wirral 100 series regular, long-time mechanic for 2019 Steve Henshaw Gold Cup runner-up, Mike Norbury, has received starting permission for this year’s Junior, Senior Manx Grand Prix races.
For the blue-riband Senior race, it’s the Thornton Racing R6 Yamaha at his disposal.
Looking towards the Super Twins themed Junior races, he’s at present actively searching for suitable machinery, to allow him extra track time around the fabled, mythical Mountain Course.
Before the Manx GP dream unfolds, he’s set to open his 2024 racing account at Anglesey (31st March-1st April). A first Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough adventure is then planned, tackling the two-day Bob Smith Spring Cup.
Thornton’s 2024 race schedule additionally includes all remaining Scarborough events (Barry Sheene Classic, Cock O’The North, Gold Cup) and the ‘Friendly Races’ the Southern 100, which he first sampled last year.
