In treacherous conditions all around the Oliver’s Mount circuit Michael Dunlop competing on a CBR 1000 Honda Fireblade judged his race to perfection to win for the first time the Steve Henshaw international gold cup.
John Mcguinness led the way early on but then John crashed out on lap 2, this meant that Guy Martin and Michael Dunlop where both now into first and second place positions.
Guy Martin gave it everything in the gold cup race to hold Michael Dunlop off but Michael who has had a sensational season of road racing fought his way to the front and eventually won the gold cup race by over 11 seconds.
Guy Martin competing on the Tyco Suzuki by TAS superbike finished in second place whilst James Cowton competing on the CC engineering CBR 600 Honda finished in a magnificent third place. A fantastic race from James who has impressed many this year with his results on road race circuits.
Mick Goodings recorded a solid fourth place finish on the Motocraft conversions backed CBR 1000 Honda Fireblade. David Hewson finished in a great fifth place on his Dave Hewson road racing RSV4 Aprilla superstock bike.
Keith Pringle completed the top six finishers, Keith competing on the Peter Lee car clinic backed SR1000 BMW has shown good consistent pace all weekend at Oliver’s Mount.
Callum Laidlaw competing on a CBR 1000 Honda Fireblade produced a fine performance to finish in seventh place in front of eighth place finisher James Neesom on the Centurion windows backed 675 Daytona Triumph.
Robert Wilson rode calmly and smoothly to finish in 9th place on the Stoddart racing ZX6 Kawasaki. Gary Graves completed the top 10 finishers in a race that had a high attrition rate. Bruce Anstey, Dean Harrison, Ian Lougher, John Mcguinness and William Dunlop all where non finishers in the feature race at this years Scarborough gold cup.
Another exciting and entertaining Steve Henshaw international gold cup race and one that brought gold cup victory for the first time for the worlds best road racer at this moment in time, seven time TT winner Michael Dunlop.
