German Motorsport Arena Oschersleben, 2.279 miles long, first opened in 1997, is traditionally the host of the prestigious, end of season (4th-5th October) Sidecar Festival (featuring World Sidecar Championship rounds).
If we briefly look at past circuit history, 25 years back Markus Barth, former Macau GP, TT and Horice experienced rider was a World Superbike races point finisher here in 2000.
Last weekend, Oschersleben hosted the first round of 2025 IDM (Internationale Deutsche Motorradmeisterschaft) edition.
Lukas Tulovic (Superbike) and Andreas Kofler (Supersport) set new lap records but let’s now look at how riders well-known from road racing circles, fared.
Very creditable P9 and P14 for Ricardo Brink (member of ‘Circuit De Varsselring in Hengelo sub 1.50 lap-time club) in IDM Superbike races.
SBK contests also contained permanent IDM 2025 series riders, Prize of Krizevci road races experienced, Croatian Martin ‘Spidermartin’ Vugrinec plus South African star Sheridan Morais, who outside World Championships distinction, has excelled too at Imatranajo, Frohburger Dreieck and the Macau Grand Prix (rostrum finisher in 2022).
Wildcards from last June’s IRRC Schleizer Dreieck in action were Julius Ilmberger (guest rider in Superbikes field) and Ben Kugler (P6, P5 in IDM Sportbike class, astride RS 660 Aprilia).
There were also accomplished, Frohburger Dreieck Twin Cup races riders, taking in the new IDM Sportbike category, R7 Yamaha equipped Justin Hanse (P4/P3) and another Aprilia jockey Felix Kauertz (P10/P6).
IDM explorations now move onto towards the legendary Schleizer Dreieck (30th May-1st June).
Schleiz will also host the penultimate round of this year’s IRRC series (22nd-24th August) before the traditional season finale at Frohburger Dreieck (20th-21st September).
