Beginning at close to 9:00 PM, fairly, gloomy dark, wet conditions greeted riders sampling the five-lap sprint, Mike Kerruish Plumbing Lightweight race.
At Cross-Four-Ways on lap one, Paton powered Rob Hodson hit the front, closely followed by race pole-sitter Jamie Coward.
The race quickly became a-dice between Hodson and KTS Racing Powered by Steadplan’s Coward.
0.927 separated them at lap one’s optimisation, then 1.425 seconds covered them as lap two ended as SMT Racing’s Hodson pulled slightly clear.
His race-lead was nibbled into marginally by Coward on lap three, who’s distance to his fellow Englishman was below 1.2 seconds.
This would prove the closest that Coward would get to Hodson with the 2022 Classic Superbike Manx Grand Prix winner, finding an extra injection of speed, productive race-craft across laps four and five.
At the chequered flag, Hodson setting on the last lap, the best lap of the race (97.481 mph), finished 5.616 seconds to the good.
Davey Todd, a late addition to the Super Twins entry, completed the top three behind Coward, after holding off a plucky late race charge from Michael Browne.
Michael Sweeney sealed fifth, Joe Yeardsley finished top IOM rider in sixth whilst Sidecar TT hero Dan Sayle, took seventh and lead non-Super Twins pilot honours.
Stephen McKnight, Barry Furber, Paul ‘Potchy’ Williams filled the remaining top ten leader board positions.
