Unbeaten thus far during this decade, the Jack Reid Cars supported KMR Kawasaki/Richard Cooper tie-up is good to go for this year’s NW200, targeting six successive Super Twin triumphs.
Regulation changes mean that Cooper is 650 Kawasaki mounted next week, having been 700cc Kawasaki propelled in 2023.
Despite this nuance, one would be foolish to dismiss the BSB race winner’s chances of elevating his NW200 wins tally.
Another different factor in contrast to last year, is the lower amount of Paton pilots.
Just three competitors are astride the multi-TT winning S1-R Paton including Triangle course favourite Jeremy McWilliams (Bayview Hotel/JMW) and yesteryear racing specialist Andy Hornby.
There’s no shortage of Aprilia runners, notable racers electing to race the RS660 model include winner last week at Cookstown Michael Sweeney, Brian McCormack (Roadhouse Macau Racing), fitness permitting Lee Johnston (Ashcourt Racing).
‘Tommy Club’ member Dan Ingham (Castings Technology) and Bob Smith Spring Cup winner Michael Browne.
World’s fastest road racer Peter Hickman as in 2023 sticks with R7 Yamaha tackle, same applies to Bathams Racing’s Michael Rutter.
The Milltown Service Station, John M Paterson Twins fields also include 25 times TT winner Michael Dunlop, Adam McLean (JMcC Roofing Racing), 250cc NW200 victor Christian Elkin, the highly rated Gary McCoy, Paul Jordan (Rev 2 Race Yamaha).
Newcomers AJ Venter (TH Racing), Dean McMaster (JMcC Roofing Racing), Aaron Spence, Richard Kay (McCrums Motorcycles) plus Cookstown front runner Martin Morris, 80-plate carrier Barry Furber and sole female participant Maria Costello MBE.
Costello MBE recently announced a new sponsorship partnership with Corby located Sterling Assessments.
Speaking about this subject, the former Classic TT podium finisher stated:
“I cannot thank Jason Lock and Sterling Assessments enough for their backing. Having local support is fantastic and it means so much to me as I can’t do this without it.”
Notable non-starters include KTS Racing Powered by Steadplan’s Jamie Coward, Stefano Bonetti, SMT Racing’s Rob Hodson, Gary Johnson, and Pierre Yves Bian.
As across all classes during the 2024 Briggs Equipment Northwest 200, the Super Twins races won’t fail to thrill, pulsate, illustrate fully real road racing’s unique, otherworldly character.
