Michael Dunlop’s South African Classic TT adventure with Team Classic Suzuki, got off to a perfect start as the 21 times TT winner powered to successive race wins.
Sixth quickest in qualifying, the opening F1 Classic Superbike race at Phakisa Raceway saw the Supersport TT lap record holder embroiled in a cross-generation battle for honours, with Scotsman Ian Simpson.
The 1998 Senior TT winner, hasn’t lost the pace, turn of speed that made him one of the top international road racers across the 1990’s.
Calling upon all of his vast experience, tenacious race craft, it took a late, potent injection of speed from GSX-R750 SRAD Suzuki mounted Dunlop, to grab P1 at the race’s conclusion.
Wrapping up the top three finishers behind Simpson and Dunlop was Africa’s fastest TT exponent, AJ Venter.
The second round of this year’s South African Classic TT series, takes place early next month (4th February) at Red Star Raceway.
