Ulster Grand Prix Preview – Part 4 – Super Twin Race

Super twin race at 2014 Ulster Grand Prix is set to be fiercely contested with many riders having the potential to be victorious at the worlds fastest road race.

This includes Ivan Lintin reigning super twins Ulster Grand Prix winner who is having another superb season of racing in super twins class which has included super twin race 1 victory at Southern 100, second place finish at North West 200 and wins at Ian Watson spring cup road races, Barry Sheene road race festival and cock of the north road races around Oliver’s Mount.

Ivan is competing on Mckinstry racing’s ER6 Kawasaki and will start arguably as race favourite but the competition is fierce. KMR Kawasaki’s challenge is lead by Keith Amor, Keith back competing around Dundrod for first time in three years has proved this year his pace on KMR Kawasaki super twin with race victory at Armoy road races 4th place finish in lightweight TT.

Keith’s KMR Kawasaki team mate Connor Behan is excellent form going into the prix. Connor is looking forward to making his debut at the worlds fastest road race where no doubt he could well be battling for a podium finish.

James Cowton has dazzled this season in super twin class with many a stunning performance, which includes third place finish in lightweight TT and back to back podium finishes at North West 200. James competing on Ken Dobson’s ER6 Kawasaki despite a newcomer around Dundrod will start one of the favourites for race victory.

Lee Johnston secured a double race win in both super twin races at North West 200 and the East Coast racing rider has a productive record at UGP so like with many riders in this race Lee could well stand on top of the podium.

Davy Morgan competing on CMS racing ER6 Kawasaki has had a consistent season which has included 5th and 4th place finishes at Southern 100. Davy has being victorious at Ulster Grand Prix in recent years winning 250 race back in 2012 and is part of a strong CMS racing team with Dan Cooper as his team mate.

Dan secured a personal best eighth place finish in this years lightweight TT and is ready for action at Dundrod. Derek Mcgee is rated highly by many and the runner up in supersport Irish road race championship in 2013 could well be a surprise package in super twin race.

Jamie Hamilton has fought back to fitness following crash in grand final race at Skerries road race and is confident of a good result on Stewart Smith racing’s ER6 Kawasaki which has already provided Jamie with joint personal best TT finish of 5th place. Nicknamed the hammer the talented rider will be aiming to hammer his way to the top in super twins class.

Paul Shoesmith, Michael Sweeney, Xavier Denis and Michal Dokoupil have all hit good form this year and all could be dark horses for standout results as could the in form Dan Kneen.

Dan has being more known this season for his exploits in superbike and supersport classes but don’t discount the leader of superbike Irish road race championship from battling near the front on Cookstown Burrows engineering racing ER6 Kawasaki.

Another rider Kawasaki mounted is Glenn Irwin who will be making his road racing debut competing for Robbie Silvester’s VRS racing team. Glenn has a top pedigree in racing and is excited about competing at the fourth international road race of the year, its difficult to say how the determined rider will do on his debut but the talent, ability and ambition is there to secure a highly creditable result.

In recent years the super twin class has gained further momentum with racing getting closer and closer which will be no different in this years race at Ulster Grand Prix. Ivan Lintin will be aiming for second super twin race win in a row or could Keith Amor on his return to Dundrod be victorious or could newcomers James Cowton and Connor Behan steal the limelight.
