Ulster Grand Prix Preview – Part 3 – Superstock Race

Michael Dunlop and his own teams S1000RR BMW have proved the combination to beat in superstock races at international road races so far in 2014.

This years superstock TT race saw Michael record a dominant win by over twenty seconds. The eleven time TT winner has won superstock race at UGP for last three years, can he make it four in a row, arguably he will start favorite to achieve this feat.

Guy Martin has a stunning record at Ulster Grand Prix with eleven wins and the immensely popular rider will be aiming for more success around Dundrod with Tyco Suzuki by TAS’s competitive superstock machine.

William Dunlop will also be looking for superstock race success for Tyco Suzuki by TAS as the rider lapped at 130.8 mph at TT 2014 aims to continue his good form.

Bruce Anstey cannot be discounted for race victory as the Valvoline racing by Padgetts motorcycles rider has a dazzling record in superstock class at international road races which includes superstock TT wins in 2004,2005,2006 and 2007. Plus superstock wins at UGP in 2004,2005,2006 and third place finish in 2013.

Current Duke road race rankings championship leader Dean Harrison will start as one of the favourites for superstock race win. RC Express racing Kawasaki rider Dean is riding magnificently this year and many people believe that the fastest Ulster Grand Prix newcomer in history will be tasting success around Dundrod.

Dan Stewart has a consistent record at the prix but is known arguably more for his excellent performances at the Isle of Man TT. Dan 2012 TT privateers champion will be aiming to be in the mix for standout result in superstock race at Dundrod when competing on SMT racing’s ultra fast ZX10 Kawasaki.

Lee Johnston has produced in 2014 many a eye catching performance including fifth place finish in superstock TT. East Coast racing’s CBR 1000 Honda Fireblade looks set to give general Lee a good chance of securing another podium finish at a road race which he has gelled with superbly since making his debut back in 2012.

Steve Mercer is back in action around Dundrod for first time in three years and team traction control rider Steve has the talent and ability to cause a surprise or two in superstock race.

David Johnson had a superb TT 2014 which included 4th place finish in superstock TT. PR racing Kawasaki rider David is looking forward to returning to UGP where he will start as a potential podium finisher in superstock class.

For many rider of the season so far in 2014 Dan Kneen is in the form of his life going into 2014 Ulster Grand Prix. Dan is Suzuki mounted for superstock race and theres no doubt that the leader of Irish road race superbike championship will be very close to the sharp end battling out front for a podium finish.

Davy Morgan, Shaun Anderson, Paul Shoesmith, Daley Mathison, David Hewson, Paul Owen and Alan Bonner are all top all round road racers who will be aiming to secure personal best results as will Seamus Elliott. Seamus competing for D&G Wray racing on a ZX10 Kawasaki has impressed many people in 2014 acquiring a succession of highly creditable results.

Derek Sheils, Derek Mcgee and Michael Sweeney are three riders tipped for the top at international road races and all three Kawasaki mounted riders will be aiming to make an impression in superstock class at the prix.

Stephen Thompson competing on Bathams backed S1000RR BMW looks set to be one of the leading BMW mounted riders in the race as does Ulster Grand Prix newcomer Peter Hickman.

Despite being a newcomer to the worlds fastest road race many people are tipping Hicky to secure a top six finish on Ice Valley racing by Motorsave ltd S1000RR BMW.

Ivan Lintin and Russ Mountford are both in great form going into competing around Dundrod this year as the 1-2 finishers in 2014 TT privateers championship continue to prove why they are two of the most improved riders in road racing.

Rob “The Bullet” Barber has a very good record in superstock class at UGP which includes top 10 finish in 2012 where in qualifying session for some time he was top of the time sheets. Rob is BMW mounted in a race which sees so many talented riders competing including as well Ryan Kneen.

Ryan 2008 newcomers A Manx Grand Prix winner had a consistent TT 2014 and will be looking to secure excellent results at the fourth international road race of the year.

Superstock races are always closely fought but in recent years one man has dominated this class around Dundrod Michael Dunlop, the question who can stop the 11 time TT winner from making it four superstock race wins in a row at Ulster Grand Prix.
