NEMCRC (North East Motorcycle Racing Club) racing stints for 2023 commenced in style over the past weekend at Croft, with storming displays from racers including Cowton Racing’s Dominic Herbertson.
In fine form throughout Saturday, Sunday’s action, the 2018 Junior Classic TT winner banked a quadruple of Super Twin triumphs, finished P2 in three of the four Supersport races.
Herbertson also gained top five finishes in the Open category races, getting the Cowton Racing ZX6R Kawasaki up close with various, fellow TT 2023 bound competitors.
This included Ripon’s Matt Stevenson, who’s racing debut in Dafabet Racing colours, ended with a decent results resume, which featured two podium finishes including taking the runner-up spot reins within the second Supersport encounter.
Runner-up from the first three Open 600/1000cc races, the fourth, final class stint proved dramatic to put it mildly for 2023 IRRC entrant Richard Charlton.
Early race proceedings saw Southern 100 winner Charlton involved in a 120-mph plus incident, at the exit point of the Esses section around Croft.
Emerging relatively unscathed, Charlton stated via Facebook:
“Race 2 running second and crashed on lap 1 on exit of Esses, massive shout out to Scott Leathers 120+ crash and they really did save my skin.
Overall been a good weekend, I will be feeling a bit stiff tomorrow!”
Open race four spoils ultimately went to Peoples Bike, Gordon Huxley Racing supported Jonathan Perry, finishing just over three seconds ahead of 191 plate-holder James Alderson.
Additional renowned roads scene members joining Perry, Charlton, Stevenson, Herbertson in amassing victories, podiums at Croft included the following:
York’s Joey Thompson, double Formula 400 class conqueror Nick Anderson, top Honda CB500 times three David McConnachy.
The in-form Stephen ‘Trevor’ Parsons, Mark Jackson and three wheeling stars Lee Crawford/Jake Lowther (Open Sidecars winners x3), Daryl Gibson/Rhys Gibbons (Open Sidecars R4 victors).
Not forgetting unbeatable in the ACU/FSRA season openers, FHO Racing’s Pete Founds/Jevan Walmsley, nearest pursuers the Ramsden’s Steve & Matty, Alan Founds and the aforementioned Jake Lowther.
