Road Racer’s Adventures: EMRA, Mallory Park Season Opener

Richard Cooper warmed up for BMW F900R Cup competition at Silverstone in style, after dominating the Mallory Park EMRA (East Midlands Racing Association) season opener.

Fastest North West 200 newcomer in history, Cooper piloting Boyce Precision Engineering/Russell Racing Yamaha, F900R BMW tackle showcased in full his proficient purpose-built circuit racing skillset on Sunday, securing five victories from six race starts.

The only race in which Cooper didn’t finish P1 was the second, final Mallory Park trophy race, won in comprehensive fashion by Hawk Racing’s Charlie Nesbitt. Prospective North West 200 debutant Leon Jeacock finalised the podium finishers.

Never Be Clever Racing’s Forest Dunn enjoyed a rostrum finishing start to 2023, taking second from the opening, ten-lap Open 600 & Allcomers combined race.

Speaking via Facebook about his weekend’s work, Cornwall’s speediest road racer stated:

“Won the race to second place in less than ideal-conditions at Mallory Park today, for the first round with EMRA!!

Struggled a bit the rest of the day sitting around a second off my personal best but happy enough for my first race of the season and first signature in the bag for the TT!!

Massive thank you to my team for their efforts in the pits making sure I had everything I needed!! On to Silverstone for the first round of BSB next week!”

Others with reputable real roads experience competing on Sunday, included 2019 Newcomers A Manx GP runner-up Sam Mousley and Bob Smith Spring Cup entrant Oliver Dean.
