Under twenty minutes after the Superbike race, attentions rapidly turned towards the reduced to two laps, Sidecars race opener at TT 2025.
At 2:00 PM – the on top form Crowe brothers Ryan & Callum were first to get the tap on the shoulder from race starter Mark Pendlebury.
Ben Birchall/Patrick Rosney (Hager/Wyckham Blackwell) followed next, twenty seconds later, with Pete Founds/Jevan Walmsley non-starters, post yesterday’s incident at Rhencullen.
First timing point Glen Helen, saw the Crowes open an expected race-lead, leading Birchall/Rosney by 11.367 seconds.
Lewis Blackstock/Oscar Lawrence held third with Lee Crawford/Scott Hardie in fourth place.
At Ballaugh Bridge, the Crowes P1 grip, expanded to twenty seconds. Blackstock/Lawrence usurped Birchall/Rosney for second whilst Crawford/Hardie (Team ARC) still fourth, were only 1.416 further back.
Through the Sulby speed-trap, the Opul/Kel Properties backed Crowes pairing, nudged over 161 mph. They were over 8.3 mph quicker than fourteen times TT winner Birchall/Rosney (Dave Holden Racing).
Early retirements included Steve Kershaw/Rhys Gibbons (Express Tyres/Quattro Group) and Mick Donovan/Jake Roberts.
As lap-one ended, No.1 plate holders, firm qualifying week leaders, the Crowes (119.418 mph – standing start lap speed) were in total control, holding a plus 36 seconds lead over Birchall/Rosney, who in turn were 2.466 to the good over Blackstock/Lawrence.
Crawford/Hardie, Todd Ellis/Emmanuelle Clement, top newcomers Kieran Clarke/Andy Johnson wrapped up the leader board top six.
Not backing off, if anything giving it’s even more across early stages of the second, final lap, the Crowes set a Sidecar sector record, through the Glen Helen timing section.
On record breaking pace through to Ballaugh Bridge, was a new Sidecar TT lap-record, looming for Ryan Crowe & Callum Crowe.
The answer was yes, yes and double yes, setting an incredible new record lap speed of 121.021 mph, the first 121 mph-lap for Sidecar machinery at the TT Races.
Second place finishers, Birchall/Rosney, finished get ready for this, one minute 17.67 seconds adrift of now three times successive three-wheeling TT conquerors, the Crowes.
Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough ‘King Pins’ Lee Crawford/Scott Hardie captured third, their first TT podium finish.
2022, 2023 World Champions Ellis/Clement took fourth with leading debutants, Clarke/Johnson fifth.
George Holden/Mark Wilkes placed sixth, the Ramsdens Steve & Matty acquired seventh
as long-term podium finishing contenders, Blackstock/Lawrence, hampered by last lap technical gremlins, dropped back to eighth.
Finalising the first ten finishers were Greg Lambert/Andrew Haynes and Rob Dawson/Matt Sims.
