TT 2024: Rutter TT Dynasty To Be Honoured

TT 2024: Rutter TT Dynasty To Be Honoured

In recognition of their contribution to the TT Races, TT 2024 will celebrate the Rutter racing dynasty of Tony Rutter and Michael Rutter.

A parade lap titled Rutter legacy lap is set to take place in the middle of race week (5th June) featuring an array of priceless, historic machines including Ducati, Yamaha, Honda exotica.

The Rutter legacy lap alongside featuring seven times TT Champion M.Rutter will also include 23 times TT victor John McGuinness MBE, 11 times TT winner Phillip McCallen and 1998 Senior & Formula One race conqueror Ian Simpson.

Additionally, it’s been revealed today that part of the fabled, mystical Mountain Course, Glen Helen 1, will be renamed Rutters.

Speaking today, Michael Rutter issued his delight about the honour.

“It’s a real shock to have this honour bestowed upon the family but, for me, it’s more of an honour and tribute to my dad as I see him having achieved more than me in his racing career.

Sadly, we lost him during the pandemic and as a result he didn’t get the tribute or send-off he deserved.
Having this corner named Rutters’ goes a good way to compensating for that and I know he’ll be looking down smiling, especially as Glen Helen 1 is such a brilliant corner.

Dad never said a lot, but I know he’d have loved it – he’ll be looking down smiling for sure.”

The Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix wins record holder continued:

“He loved the TT and although he probably should have retired after his accident, competing again on the Mountain Course was what he wanted the most.

He raced there for a long time and achieved so much on all kinds of bikes, so he deserves it, and I’m incredibly proud to see the family name honoured in this way.”
