For multiple years an extremely proficient Manx Grand Prix participant, Stockton-on-Tees based Tom Robinson is enjoying the TT Races step up, setting unofficial personal best lap speeds.
Monday evening’s qualifying yielded a 120.282 lap whilst Wednesday night’s action saw him unlock the 121-mph lap-mark (121.094).
Commenting on cracking the 120-mph barrier, praising title sponsor Pete Stacey, he stated:
“I think I did 119 on the first lap, then 121 on the flying lap but it was good. If it wasn’t for Pete, I wouldn’t be able to do it, it’s his bike and he’s helped me out.”
Adding about why he hasn’t a 600 machine for TT 2024, Robinson who hopes to tackle later in the year, the Armoy Road Races, Steve Henshaw Gold Cup, said:
“My ZX6 (Kawasaki) is too old for homologation, think you need a later one, it’s either get a good quality 600 or get a decent stocker, so we went for a 1000cc bike (Pete Stacey Racing YZF R1 Yamaha) because I’m more suited to it, with size and stuff.
I’d done the Manx for quite a years’ now and I was struggling with my size on the 600, I was losing a lot, top end speed wise. The 1000 is a bit more suited to me, I’m a bit heavy! 600’s not for me.”
