South Africa’s top TT exponent AJ Venter, will join the Wilson Craig Racing rider ranks for TT 2023.
With WCR team rider Matt Rees ruled out, following injuries sustained during an incident at the Cookstown 100, Venter, who’s personal best TT lap stands at 122.685 mph, now has available CBR 600RR Honda machinery to pilot within June’s Supersport races on the fabled, mythical Mountain Course.
Commenting recently about this, previous TC Racing, Top Gun Racing, BE Racing team member Venter stated:
“In life we all have dreams and to be riding under the Wilson Craig Team banner at the TT races is one of those moments.
I hadn’t actually pencilled in doing the TT this year but i got talking to my good friend Michael Dunlop who was racing in South Africa at the start of this year and he encouraged me along with Gary Johnson, to get back over to the TT.
In fact, Michael had offered to build me a bike but then I got talking to Matthew Rees who rides for the Wilson Craig Team and between all three they got me this ride which I am super excited about.
Along with the Wilson Craig 600 I will be bringing my own BMW1000RR over for the TT, where I will take in the Superbike races.”
Wilson Craig Racing Team Owner, Darren Gilpin added:
“We are all very much looking forward to working with AJ. He is a very experienced and professional rider who will bring a lot of knowledge with him which is very important, especially at the TT Races.
Unfortunately, we had been expecting to have our Team rider Matthew Rees with us at the TT, but Matthew has a long road ahead of him recovery wise after his crash at Cookstown which has proven more complicated than we first envisaged.
Matthew has the full support of all our team and hopefully he will be back before the end of the season.”
