Supersport TT winner Lee Johnston is optimistic of Super Twin race winning challenges at TT 2023, as the twice Steve Henshaw Gold Cup winner and Ashcourt Racing bid to take Aprilia into the TT winners’ category.
Despite a power deficit to the competition, allied to the unproven nature of the RS660 Aprilia around the fabled Mountain Course, Johnston went onto place a fine second in last years’ sole Bennetts Super Twins race.
Speaking about TT 2023 action aboard the same RS660 Aprilia as raced last year plus, Johnston who also has ex works Honda’s in Superbike and Superstock trim and R6 Yamaha machinery at his disposal, stated:
“We finished second in last year’s race but didn’t really deserve the podium, so we’ve been developing the bike over the winter to get some more power out of it.
I want to be competitive and be genuinely in the race this time around so as to bridge the gap to the front runners.”
‘General Lee’ went onto add:
“I’m not sure if the Paton’s that Peter [Hickman] and Michael rode last year will be in the race, but you’ve got to do 120mph to win the race no matter what you’re riding so that’ll be the aim.”
