TT 2022: Harrison Tops Thrilling Tuesday Evening Practice

Already TT 2022 has yielded a 130-mph lap, newcomers impressing, rising stars rapidly improving, the anticipated favourites showing strong form, what would Tuesday evening’s practice session bring?

Above average conditions all-round albeit a touch breezy greeted Superbike/Superstock/Supersport exponents, who opened tonight’s competitive proceedings.

Beginning eleven minutes behind schedule at 6:31 PM, first to speed down Bray Hill was nine times Macau GP winner, Bathams Racing’s Michael Rutter.

Going against many peoples’ form book, Milenco by Padgetts Davey Todd set the pace on the run to Glen Helen, taking just four minutes 19.908 seconds to reach the first timing sector.

Todd maintained P1 to Ballaugh Bridge, averaging almost 139.5 mph.

First racer to complete a standing start-lap was DAO Racing’s Dean Harrison, lapping at 130.37 mph.

This was absolutely bested in style by 2019 IRRC Superbike Champion Todd, setting a new unofficial personal best lap speed of 131.66 mph.

Michael Dunlop went third quickest lapping at 129.12 mph, just ahead of Peter Hickman (128.97).

Flying Laps:

The opening flying-laps saw new practice week pace setter Todd, three times TT winner Harrison set a soaring pace.

Todd then retired at Casey’s whilst Harrison went onto record the new fastest lap speed of practice week, lapping at 131.77 mph, 17 minutes 10.817 seconds.

Others setting new best lap speeds included John McGuinness MBE (128.64), Ian Hutchinson (127.58), Dominic Herbertson (126.54), Derek Sheils (126.40), Shaun Anderson (126.33).

Top newcomer Glenn Irwin (124.947), Paul Jordan (124.391), Michael Browne (124.224), Stephen ‘Trevor’ Parsons (121.212), David ‘Action’ Jackson (121.191) and WH Racing’s Julian Trummer (120.72).

Practice Suspended:

With just over ten minutes of the session to run, it was announced over the tannoy that competition had been suspended due to a non-racing medical emergency.
