For the first time in 2022, closed roads action took place in New Zealand as the Cliffhanger Hill Climb took centre stage.
Based in Gladstone, New Zealand, the annual hill climb previously won by Classic TT, TT racer Jay Lawrence has more than a touch of a pure road racing vibe about it, given the flowing roads, smooth riding style required to master the popular time trial course.
Post Saturday, Sunday’s timed competition, ‘King of The Hill’ honours went to established street racing pilot Hamish Tarr.
Tarr piloting 2011 spec S1000RR BMW machinery, registered a best lap time of 2 minutes 11 seconds, which equated in speed terms to an average speed of 104.845 mph.
Respectively second, third, fourth quickest behind Tarr were Ben Tippins, lead Supersport exponent Drew Mair and reigning ‘King of The Hill’ Shanon Dellow.
In total 10 racers recorded lap speeds exceeding 95 mph whilst a further nine racers, nudged over the 90 mph lap mark.
