By Good conditions all round, intense competition, great racing always gives chances for racers to set huge new personal best lap times.
Whilst conditions at times were not 100 percent perfect over the past weekend, the pace was still of an extremely high standard at the returning Oliver’s Mount Spring Cup.
The paciest competitors around the Mount from Saturday, Sunday’s competitive action have between them now 117 Wins at Scarborough! Ashcourt Racing’s Lee Johnston and Bob Smith Spring Cup winner for a second time Dean Harrison.
Although absent from the feature Spring Cup race due to technical issues, back to back Steve Henshaw Gold Cup winner Johnston finished the meeting overall fastest, thanks to a best lap time of 1 minute 47.075 seconds set on route to claiming opening Supersport (A) race honours.
Silicone Engineering Racing’s Harrison (1.47.276) was just over 0.2 of a second down on his good friend’s best lap time.
Third fastest overall behind Johnston, Harrison was feature Spring Cup race runner-up Davey Todd (1.48.836) who is rapidly developing into a prominent exponent of England’s only active real roads venue.
Just two more racers dipped below the 1 minute 49 seconds mark, DC Racing’s Mike Norbury (1.48.916) and Road Racing News Supersport A winner Jim Hind (1.48.970).
Finalising the fastest ten competitors from a well attended, enjoyable Spring Cup meeting were Dominic Herbertson (1.49.169), quickest Scarborough newcomer Michael Browne (1.49.739), BSB 2021 entrant Joe Thompson (1.50.227), Dafabet Racing’s Rob Hodson (1.50.393) and former Senior Manx GP Champion Tom Weeden (1.51.242).
