Spring Cup: Scarborough Newcomers Round Up
Outside of BE Racing In Conjunction with Richardson Kelly Racing’s Michael Browne, other Scarborough newcomers to excel at the Spring Cup included triple Manx GP rostrum finisher Darryl Tweed.

Ballymoney’s Tweed piloting the Stanley Stewart Racing Yamaha like the previously mentioned Browne, showed all of his roads experience, respected ability in taking sweetly to the Olivier’s Mount circuit, which can be like marmite for certain racers.

Fifth in his Supersport heat, he led the Mount debutants charge within the blue riband Bob Smith Spring Cup, taking a fighting fifth ahead of Scarborough specialists including Tom Weeden, Joe Thompson and Dave Bell.

Ending the meeting with a best lap time of 1 minute 52.323 seconds, Tweed was overall pleased with his maiden English roads venture. Speaking via Facebook he candidly stated:

“Brilliant weekend racing at Scarborough a very well run meeting . Well done and thanks to everyone involved. I was happy with most of my results and my times were steadily coming down.

P5 being my best finish of the weekend in the Bob Smith spring cup race. Also bagging a 11th in 1st 600 race and a DNF in the 2nd following a mishap into turn one. Thanks to all my sponsors and team who make this and every weekends racing happen.”

Alongside Tweed, added new names to Oliver’s Mount fans who impressed included Super Twins B top three finishers Martin Robbins and Craig Szczypek.

Others taking home top six finishes from their first racing trips to Scarborough were Drew Patrick backed Gary McCoy, Obsession Engineering supported Eric Wilson, new HeatTech Racing signing Thomas Maxwell.

Quickest competitor from the sole Support race James Evans and pure road racing first timer, notable racing returnee Chris Burns.

Many world famous International road racing names have honed their talents at Oliver’s Mount and it was great to see so many hungry, ambitious racers like the aforementioned of all age groups taking to the ‘Mini TT’ for the first time.
