Southern 100 Preview
This years Southern 100 has attracted a high quality entry for the races held in Billown, Isle of Man. Leading the entry is road racing superstar Michael Dunlop. Michael who recently won 4 races in a week at this years Isle of Man TT is set to compete on the Honda TT legends racing superbike at this years Southern 100. Alongside competing in the superbike races Michael is also set to take part in both supersport races on the same CBR600 Honda prepared by PTR that won him both supersport TT races this year.
Fans favourite Guy Martin is back at the Southern 100 looking for his second Southern 100 solo championship win, Guy took victory in the solo championship back in 2009 when on Honda machinery. Now on Suzuki machinery with the Tyco Suzuki by TAS team, Guy has always enjoyed competing at the Southern 100 and for 2013 Guy will be looking for more race wins at the Billown based road race.
William Dunlop at the post TT races broke the supersport 600 lap record on the Southern 100 road race circuit. This bodes as a good omen for William in the supersport races at this years Southern 100. For the supersport races William is competing on a R6 Yamaha backed by the Milwaukee Yamaha team.
Top Southern 100 newcomer in 2012 Dean Harrison is back for this years event competing for the RC Express racing Kawasaki by MSS performance team in the superbike races. Whilst for the supersport races Dean is riding a R6 Yamaha backed by Ian Bell motorcycles. At this years Isle of Man TT, Dean achieved a debut podium finish in the lightweight TT race competing on a ER6 Kawasaki backed by Stewart Smith racing, at the Southern 100 Dean is set to compete on the same bike.
Ryan Farquhar’s KMR Kawasaki powered by Vauxhall team has a strong presence at this years Southern 100. Super-twins race winner at the Southern 100 in 2012 Jamie Hamilton is entered in the super-twin, superbike and supersport races. Jamie produced some eye catching performances at the Isle of Man TT and will be looking to carry the same form onto the Southern 100.
Rising star on road race circuits James Cowton is competing for the KMR Kawasaki powered by Vauxhall team in the super-twin races. For the supersport races James is competing on a CBR600 Honda backed by CC engineering.
Multiple times race winner at the Southern 100 Ian Lougher is back once again competing at the Billown based road race. Ian is set to compete for the WA Corless joinery/Jackson racing team in the superbike and supersport races. Alongside competing on Honda machinery for the WA Corless joinery/Jackson racing team Ian is also competing on Kawasaki machinery in the super-twin races.
Seasoned road racers Davy Morgan, Mark Parrett, Russ Mountford and Paul Cranston are all more than capable of achieving top 6 finishes in the superbike, supersport and super-twin races.
Top 4 finisher in the recent lightweight TT race Ivan Lintin is a rider more than capable of securing podium finishes at this years Southern 100. Ivan is competing on a Taylor Lindsey racing backed ZX6 Kawasaki for the supersport races whilst in the super-twin class Ivan is also Kawasaki mounted.
125 and 250 specialist Chris Palmer is entered in the two stroke races at this years Southern 100 whilst Chris is also taking in the super-twins race on a ER6 Kawasaki backed by Mannin collections.
Leading newcomers at the 2013 Southern 100 road races include Michael Hoffman and Olaf Romijn from the Netherlands. Plus up and coming road racers Tom Robinson and James Neesom who have both secured top six finishes at Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough.
The sidecar races entry includes current sidecar TT winners the Birchall brothers and Tim Reeves. Tim is set to compete on a SMT racing backed outfit with Dan Sayle taking the passengers seat. Meanwhile the Birchall’s sidecar outfit is backed by the Cofan racing team which is run by 3 times Isle of Man TT winner Klaus Klaffenbock.
Up and coming sidecar competitor Karl Bennett will be aiming for top results at this years Southern 100 when competing on the Karl Bennett racing sidecar outfit. Isle of Man TT podium finisher Conrad Harrison is back for this years Southern 100 road races and will be aiming for race wins when competing on the Printing roller services sidecar outfit.
In all a top entry for this years Southern 100. The event known as the friendly races is gaining a bigger and bigger following as the event continues to grow, plus for this years event there is entered TT stars, rising stars in road racing, newcomers to road racing and top international riders.
