As anticipated, wet inclement weather put in a spanner in the works for tonight’s Southern 100 action.
Originally intended to begin at 6:18 PM, roads closed at 6:40 PM whilst newcomers practice commenced 44 minutes behind schedule at 7:02 PM.
Just past 7:10 PM, Superbike practice opened featuring a host of pure road racing giants.
Given the awkward, gradually drying conditions around Billown, many an esteemed name took it steady, reacquainting themselves with the 4.25 miles long course.
Finishing top of this evening’s big bike times sheet was Marcus ‘Spartacus’ Simpson, registering a best lap time of 2:40.394 seconds, which equates speed wise to 95.390 mph.
25 times TT winner Michael Dunlop (2.40.785), already looking in race mode, finished only 0.391 in arrears to Simpson.
Hebden Bridge’s Jamie Coward (2.41.036), BE/RK Racing’s Michael Browne (2.41.575) respectively were third, fourth fastest.
Finalising Monday’s Superbike/Superstock top ten were Dean Harrison (2.41.932), Paul Jordan (2.42.358), Forest Dunn (2.45.600), Anthony Redmond (2.46.487), Rhys Hardisty (2.47.405) and ‘130 Mph Club’ member Rob Hodson (2.47.710).
