When looking into who would be taking part in the Cock O’The North Road Races at Oliver’s Mount, Scarborough in 2016, a few names in particular piqued my curiosity, the Belgian trio of Kevin De Frenne, Steven Galens and Laurent Hoffmann.
All IRRC (International Road Racing Championship) regulars, they all took to the Mount in great fashion, counting on all of their previous roads courses experiences.
Results wise, the Herock backed trio claimed between them no less than eight top six finishes.
Twice IRRC Supersport Champion Hoffmann took a brace of top five finishes whilst team mate De-Frenne impressed hugely with three finishes of 3rd or better.
When catching up with them in the Scarborough paddock, you could sense how much they enjoyed their first racing tenures at England’s only active real roads circuit.
For further proof of this, here’s what aforementioned IRRC Supersport great Hoffmann had to say, when summing up what his favourite section is at North Yorkshire’s ‘Mini TT’.
“It must be the bottom straights over Jefferies Jumps. As good as flat out going through the gears wiggling and jumping like a wild horse, makes you feel alive.”
