Road racing’s great races – Scarborough gold cup 2005
The first time I really took an avid interest in road racing was after the
2005 Scarborough gold cup which saw Guy Martin retain the Scarborough gold
cup for the third year in a row. Guy took victory on the Uel Duncan racing
Suzuki GSXR 1000 superbike in front of Ian Hutchinson who took second place
on his Honda CBR 1000 superstock bike. This was the first time I took close
notice of Hutchy when racing and it was at the 2005 scarborough gold cup that
I realised his talent on roads circuits and that potentially he could be
a future gold cup winner but also a future multiple Isle of Man TT winner.
Ian Lougher took third place on the DMRR Honda Fireblade superbike whilst
taking fourth place was John Mcguinness on the Vitrans Honda superbike. Fifth
place went to Jason Griffths on the Yamaha R1 superbike in a race that showed
we had some new road racing superstars and ones that would give us many a exciting race.
