Bright sunny and perfect conditions greeted competitors for the 2009 Steve Henshaw international gold cup race.
Guy Martin got the hole shot slotting into race lead just in front of Ryan Farquhar.
At the end of lap 1 positions stayed the same with Ian Hutchinson holding third place on the Padgetts racing CBR 1000 Honda Fireblade.
On lap two of the eight lap race Hutchinson moved into second place as he set about reeling in Martin who was bidding for his seventh successive Steve Henshaw international gold cup victory.
Laps three, four and five saw the Honda mounted riders battle it out for race lead with nothing in it between the riders who had at TT 2009 battled out a memorable superstock race.
By lap seven Martin was still holding off Hutchinson but there was nothing in it whilst now third was 2002 gold cup winner Ian Lougher on Blackhorse motorcycle finance backed R1 Yamaha.
Onto the final lap which saw the leading duo duke it out up front, Martin would hold his nerve as he recorded his seventh Steve Henshaw international gold cup victory.
Hutchinson finished second just 0.430 of a second behind race winner Martin, Ian Lougher secured third place finish whilst Gary Johnson recorded his personal best result to date around Oliver’s Mount finishing in fourth.
Steve Mercer competing for the peoples bike team was fifth, three times TT winner Adrian Archibald was sixth, Mick Goodings seventh, Stephen Oates eighth, Dave Woolams ninth whilst Darren Percival completed the top ten.
Over the years we’ve seen many a great battle between Guy Martin and Ian Hutchinson, one of the races that most springs to mind is the 2009 Steve Henshaw international gold cup which provided fans around Oliver’s Mount with an iconic battle for gold cup glory.
