Road Racing News Speaks To Part 1: Jamie Coward

TT Privateers Champion, twice a race winner on his debut at the Armoy Road Races, a Southern 100 victory, strong results in the big bike races at TT 2022, it’s been another excellent season of road racing for KTS Racing Powered by Steadplan’s Jamie Coward.

On Thursday afternoon, Road Racing News caught up with the Hebden Bridge racer, to chat all things real road racing.

Across a series of articles, we gained honest, forthright, candid insights from the 2019 Junior Classic TT winner.

The first part of our uncontrived conversation, reads as follows:

Road Racing News:

How’s practice week been so far, I’ve watched your vlogs, I know there has been some challenges.

J.Coward:

“To be fair it’s been, the little Manx Norton has been not too bad to be fair, done three laps on that, think two of them were in a red flag situation but they still count.

The one lap I did do was a 105-mph lap, so was happy with that. Just the big bike at the moment has been an absolute pig.

We’ve had one engine go funny on the dyno, then the second engine went last night, we’ve managed to get an engine but it needs running on the dyno, needs sorting out, so we won’t get out on it tonight.

Think the forecast for tomorrow isn’t the best, so think that’s the last qualifying session, so going to have to ask the organisers and see if they will take one of the warm up laps as a qualifying lap, if that makes sense.

Hopefully we can get out on it and race it, we might get of dispensation just to go, given we’ve had experience from the TT and it’s not like I’ve not been out on the circuit at all, I’ve been out there riding.

But at the moment it’s pretty challenging, so hoping fortunes change going into race week.”

Road Racing News:

Got to say congratulations on the wins at Armoy.

J.Coward:

“Well chuffed with that, especially the Super Twins race, obviously I go really well on the KTS Racing bike.

To go over there as a newcomer and to beat Michael Sweeney and Paul Jordan, I was made up to take it to them boys and actually win and go under the lap record.

It was one of the closest races of the year, someone said it’s up for road race of the year, that would be nice to get that.

Everywhere we’ve been we’ve been really good, fairly consistent, Southern 100 was chuffed with that, the 600 races and stuff down there were mega and the twin races were really good.”
