Just as I stated in 2024, although purpose-built circuit-based action (Euromarque Motorsport Park), last week’s Sound of Thunder meeting organised by the Bears Motorcycle Club New Zealand, had subtle roads scene vibes about it.
Same as last year, two of the prime aces circulating around Euromarque Motorsport Park were street racing veteran Heath Botica and Dale Finch.
Between them they captured eight race wins with Finch P1 from Conti Cup, opening Best of British, F1 Superbike races, Botica victorious in Heritage races 1 & 3, the final Moto Euro contest.
Fellow NZ real roads regulars competing included F1 Superbike race 3, Best of British Senior GP, Flying Farewell winner Ashton Hughes and Best of British Masters GP victor Tyler Lincoln.
It’s not long till the next significant NZ bike racing extravaganza, as Hampton Downs hosts next week the next round of this year’s New Zealand Superbike Championship.
Opening series rounds have seen Cemetery Circuit Races lap-record holder, Mitch Rees in formidable form winning five of six big-bike races.
