Prior to concluding a hat-trick of Superbike successes, the opening big bike encounter would see the Whakatane rider embroiled in a titanic tussle with Alastair Hoogenboezem.
Across the finish line as the twelfth and final lap ended, just 0.136 separated the duelling duo.
Fresh from prodigious Bluff Hill Climb, Honda Invercargill Street Races ventures, Tony Rees wrapped up the rostrum finishers.
The NZ street racing veteran would go onto acquire another podium finish, fourth place finish from the remaining 1000cc races.
