2019 Senior Classic TT runner-up Stefano Bonetti returned to closed roads competition on Saturday, Sunday, as he sampled the Spoleto Forca Di Cerro Hill Climb.
‘Bonny’ piloting his own teams trusty S1000RR BMW, was embroiled in captivating battles for overall combined FIM European/CIVS Italian national hill climb victories with fellow countryman Maurizio Bottalico.
Whilst R6 Yamaha mounted Bottalico claimed race 2, race 3 triumphs, the weekend’s opening time trial encounter saw the amiable Bonetti claim the victory spoils thanks to a best time of 1 minute 08.44 seconds.
Reflecting via Facebook about his triumphant return to hill climbing, the Super Twins North West 200 winner, three times top six TT Races finisher, stated:
“Looking back on this weekend of races, after a few years it was exciting to go back to uphill races! First place in 1000cc category of both Italian and European Championships, on both Saturday and Sunday!
Placed on Saturday first quickest overall and Sunday second fastest overall. Thoughts to the injured pilot, get better soon.”
Overall 154 competitors were in action at Spoleto with racers competing on machines ranging from 125 Aprilia’s to MV Agusta, Ducati and even Piaggio scooter steeds.
