21st century International road racing greats Glenn Irwin, Peter Hickman took starring roles in the BSB season finale at Brands Hatch.
Nine times TT winner Hickman, who has re-signed for suitors FHO Racing (TT 2023 campaign still to be confirmed), took P2 from the opening Superbike race behind Honda Racing’s Irwin before clinching in fine fashion, his first BSB race win of 2022.
Fifth within this afternoon’s final Superbike encounter, Hickman who missed out on the Showdown top eight, strong late season form has enabled him to clinch for the second time, the Riders Cup title.
Fellow roads ‘Alien’, six times North West 200 winner Glenn Irwin alongside aforementioned first big bike race honours, consolidated second in the final Championship standings, thanks to steadfast showings today.
Placing third post Superbike race two action, the third, final SBK race stint saw Irwin get the better of brother Andy Irwin, to claim a fifth victory of the 2022 British Superbike season.
It’s not 100 percent clear yet as to what his plans are for 2023, will he stick with the works Honda team or move back to Paul Bird Motorsport?
Outside of Irwin, Hickman’s exploits, additional world class International road racers competing this weekend included DAO Racing’s Dean Harrison, Rich Energy OMG Racing’s James Hillier, three wheeling TT ‘King Pins’ Ben Birchall/Tom Birchall and Ashcourt Racing’s Lee Johnston.
Johnston’s latest British Supersport Championship tenure ended in prominent style, as the middleweight class specialist took second from the season finale ahead of fastest North West 200 newcomer in history, Richard Cooper.
