Road Racer’s Adventures: 82nd Daytona 200

First and foremost, congratulations to Josh Herrin on retaining the Daytona 200 victory crown, claiming his third event win.

Yesterday’s 57 lap race started well for eighth quickest qualifier Richard Cooper, quickly jostling for the race lead.

The speediest Northwest 200 newcomer in history up till his first pit-stop, was firmly emersed within the front-running lead pack.

Post pit-stop endeavours, the four times NW200 race winner dropped down the order but was working his way back through the field before misfortune struck on lap 25, as he crashed out of contention.

PHR Performance/FHO Racing Triumph team-mate, TT Races lap record holder Peter Hickman like his fellow Englishman, made a highly competent start to race proceedings before circumstances outside his control forced him towards the lower end of the field.

As the race progressed, Hickman regained momentum, consistently lapping in the low 1:52 seconds bracket and with ten laps to go, looked good for a top fifteen finish or better.

Cruelly a technical issue with just two laps still to run, thwarted Hickman’s race finishing ambitions.

The 13 times TT winner’s bad luck meant that top UK finisher honours went to Matt Truelove, finishing a creditable thirteenth.
