Breaking this afternoon, the Walderstown ‘Race of The South’ Road Races are officially back this year, expanding the Irish Road Races total of 2026 to nine.
The County Westmeath based event (first edition 1973), most recent running in 2022 was lit up by TT wins record holder Michael Dunlop, capturing race wins x3 (Open/Supersport/Grand Final triumphs).
Daracore Racing’s Kevin Keyes swept up the Senior Support Championship and Non-Championship encounters, Michael Sweeney topped the Super Twins fraternity.
There were also victories for yesteryear racing goliaths Barry Davidson, Brian Mateer, John Leigh Pemberton, and Richard Ford plus P1 prizes for Keelim Ryan, Marcus ‘Spartacus’ Simpson and Jonathan Watt.
Meeting promoters the Fore Motorcycle Racing Club recently issued their delight, about the ‘Race of The South’s comeback.
“Fore Motorcycle Racing club held a follow up meeting to the club’s AGM which was well attended again today.
Discussion was about finalising a committee and the running of Walderstown Road Races, the Race of the South.
Fore club is delighted to announce we will be running our event in 2026. Date has yet to be decided on but will be secured in the coming days. It may have taken a while to get here, but it’s a go from now.
And so, the hard work begins. A big thank you to all who attended both meetings, new and old members, and to those who took up positions on the committees. Let’s go racing.”
