Prosperous Start To 2024 South African Classic TT Series

The 2024 edition of the South African Classic TT series, kicked off in prosperous fashion over recent days.

Host for opening series rounds was the East London Grand Prix circuit, which first popped up in 1934.

Just as in 2023, a host of famous faces travelled to South Africa including Howard Selby, James Ellison, 1998 Senior TT winner Ian Simpson and 2018 IRRC Superbike Champion Danny Webb.

Imatranajo lap record holder Webb, racing in Team Classic Suzuki colours, proved the crème de la crème of the field.

Post practice sessions, qualifying, the Tunbridge Wells rider stormed to Classic SBK race one victory, finishing over eleven seconds ahead of Macau Grand Prix podium finisher, Sheridan Morais.

Classic SBK race 2 would also yield victory spoils for Webb, having held off the attentions of ex World Supersport front-runner Morais.

Rounding out the first three finishers was Africa’s top TT Races exponent, TH Racing’s AJ Venter.

Attentions for South African Classic TT competitors, now turn towards the iconic Kyalami circuit with competition proceedings beginning early next month (3rd February).
